My mom received a Mako Robotic Arm total knee replacement (makoplasty) with Dr. Vinh Tran in May 2024. It is now January 2025, and in the last nine months, her recovery has been amazing. Dr. Vinh Tran is smart, kind, helpful, and makes you feel comfortable during surgery and at all of our follow-up appointments. Her physical therapist was amazed with her recovery and movement starting from the second day after the surgery, showing a very good range of motion already.

She has also recommended Dr. Tran to several of her friends who also have had wonderful results with him. My mom and her friends are very pleased and thankful for the care they received and the recovery they experienced.

A Miracle at 94: Successful Hip Replacement Surgery Defies the Odds

At nearly 94 years old, a man’s full recovery from right hip replacement surgery is a testament to modern medicine, the skill and expertise of his surgeon, and the steadfast determination of the patient. With serious health risks, including advanced age and more than 20 years on the blood thinner Warfarin, the surgery was a high-risk procedure. Yet, under the skillful hands of Dr. Vinh B. Tran, a renowned orthopedic surgeon at NOVA Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Center in Vienna, Virginia, the operation was a resounding success.

Before proceeding, Dr. Tran required a rigorous pre-operative evaluation to assess the patient’s suitability for surgery. “Dr. Tran insisted on a hospital and X-ray exam, as well as a comprehensive report from my cardiologist, before agreeing to operate,” the patient shared. After a detailed consultation and thorough review, Dr. Tran scheduled the surgery for April 23, 2024, at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.

The robotic hip surgery presented unique challenges. Blood thinners increase the risk of excessive bleeding, while older age adds potential complications during sedation, surgery, as well as the recovery process. Miraculously, within just six weeks -- faster than many younger patients recovering from the same kind of surgery -- the patient completed physical therapy at home, progressing from using a walker to walking unassisted and pain-free.

“The surgery was complicated because of my age and my long-time use of blood thinners, but Dr. Tran is an outstanding surgeon. I knew I was in the best of hands with him. Now, I feel blessed to have a new right hip that allows me to walk without any pain,” the patient said.

Dr Vinh Tran is amazing. My mother has been suffering and enduring knee pains for 2 years. She has always been apprehensive of any survey put we were encouraged from friends and family to go see Dr Tran. He immediately diagnosed that my mother needed a partial knee replacement. She's had her surgery in February and 4 months later, after some Physical Therapy is able to walk normal and pain free. She wished she did this 2 years ago.
